Kamil: An Immigrant Youth’s Struggle

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate has completed its Investigative Review into the suicide of a young person in care and is publicly releasing the results of the review as outlined under the Child and Youth Advocate Act.

The OCYA thoroughly reviewed file information provided by the Ministry of Human Services, interviewed professionals involved with this youth, and consulted with a number of experts to inform recommendations in the Report.

“This was a tragic situation, especially for those who knew this youth,” said Del Graff, Provincial Child and Youth Advocate. “There were four key findings in this review that led to five recommendations that need to be acted upon by government. It is our hope that the implementation of these recommendations will help prevent a similar situation from occurring.”
