National Child Day Contest

Calling Young Artists: Do you want to be heard?

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) is hosting an art contest to celebrate National Child Day on November 20 and promote the rights of children and youth! Use your voice and say something about your rights and what is important to you!

Did you know…

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) sets out the rights of children with 54 articles that provide us with a solid road map of what is needed to raise healthy and happy children and youth?

Learn more about these rights and get inspired here.

We want you to use that inspiration and your imagination to express your rights as a young person through art.

To participate:

  • Create a picture, painting, poem or short story (up to 350 words)

You can use crayons, felt markers, paint, collage, words or whatever inspires you in the space of 8.5 x 11 inches (letter size).

Did we mention there are prizes?

We will be giving out prizes for each age category:

  • 5-11 years
  • 12-16 years
  • 17-23 years

You could win:

  • An iPad mini
  • AirPods
  • A mini speaker
  • One of three pizza parties for school classrooms

The contest winners will be selected by a panel consisting of the Alberta Child and Youth Advocate, young people, and other special guests.

Important stuff to know:

  • Contest closes November 12, 2022
  • Contest is only open to residents of Alberta

Please send all entries, with the title and artist’s name clearly marked, along with a signed release for publication form to the OCYA. All entries must be postmarked by November 12, 2022.
