Why youth participation matters

Young people have the right to be heard in decisions that affect their lives. In our new video, youth share what participation means to them and why their voices should be included in programs, services, and conversations that impact them.

Participants describe youth participation as being listened to, welcomed, and meaningfully involved, regardless of age or background. They also challenge assumptions that young people are not ready to contribute, noting that many already navigate complex decisions and difficult conversations in their daily lives.

Young people offer clear guidance for adults:

  1. Meet youth where they are at.
  2. Create supportive spaces.
  3. Listen with intention.

Meaningful participation strengthens decisions, improves systems, and helps ensure young people’s rights are respected.
