Survey: Experiences of Youth Houselessness in Alberta

We are seeking feedback to better understand youth houselessness.

Youth houselessness is a serious issue in Alberta. In an upcoming report, we will focus on the experiences of unhoused and formerly unhoused youth.

As per the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, we define unhoused as “without stable, permanent, appropriate housing, or the immediate prospect, means and ability to acquire it.” This includes young people who are living rough, in an emergency shelter, couch surfing, or in unsafe housing.

Through this survey, we hope to learn more about why youth become unhoused, the challenges they face, and what supports or changes could help prevent youth houselessness.

This engagement is not just about listening—it’s about using what we learn to improve outcomes for young people across the province.

We are inviting people with lived or professional experience of youth houselessness to share their insights through one of two surveys, open until August 31, 2025:

  1. Youth Survey – For young people aged 12 to 24 who are currently unhoused or have experienced houselessness in the past.
  2. Survey for Family, Professionals, and Adults with Lived Experience
    For:
    • Parents, family members, and natural supports of youth who are currently unhoused or have been in the past,
    • Service providers who work with currently or previously unhoused youth, or;
    • Adults ages 25+ who have lived experience of youth houselessness

Please complete the survey that best matches your experience by using the appropriate link above and share your thoughts on this important issue.
