National Child Day 2012

Flash mob and song “We Want To Be Heard”

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) celebrated National Child Day at MacEwan University with a flash mob and a live performance of “We Want To Be Heard”, a song written and performed by local Edmonton hip-hop artist and iHuman youth worker Maigan van der Giessen.

Twenty eight grade 5 to 7 students from Elizabeth Finch School in Edmonton participated in a flash mob, choreographed by their assistant principal Donna Forfylow.

Art Contest

An art contest to celebrate National Child Day was also announced. Art work from the contest will be used in future as promotional material for the OCYA, while all submissions will become part of a travelling art display to symbolize children’s rights across the province.
Many of the entries were combined into a book on children and youth rights. View the Art Book here.
