Survey: Youth mental health and substance use services in Alberta


The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) stands up for young people involved with the child welfare or youth justice systems. We are seeking feedback about young people’s experiences with mental health challenges or with substance use (drugs or alcohol).

The OCYA publicly releases an Investigations’ annual report based on the trends we have seen through our investigative reviews. Through our reviews, we have seen that many young people have had challenges with mental health and substance use services and want to see that they have the support they need. In our Investigations’ annual report, we plan to discuss these challenges, and make recommendations about them.

We are interested in hearing from stakeholders about what is or is not working for young people in Alberta with mental health and substance use concerns, and learning from young people who have experienced mental health or substance use challenges.

We would like to invite you to complete the relevant surveys at the links below and provide your thoughts on this issue. Both surveys will close on May 30, 2024:
